Lloyd -- did the hotel offer a promotional price? And have the rooms been completely redone?
A lot of people like the Madison since the rooms are larger than others in Left Bank hotels. Some rooms qualify as closets.

We stayed at the Madson two years ago and enjoyed it very much. Nice rooms and good breakfast and attentive staff. The location is central St. Germain and can't be beat.
We got a very good rate, especially for September, from Orbitz: 220€. Try there, and keep checking.
Yes it is a popular place, and the popularityu is well deserved. It is one of the older hotels, with large (relatively large) rooms, and fairly reasonable prices.

The Madison has become very popular--we were lucky to get in during September even booking way in advance.
Just went to the Hotel Madison website, and it says that it is completely booked for the special rate period (one week) during December. Popular place, huh? blink.gif
Thank you, Chuck!
Teresa, the webdite of the Hotel Madison is:

I
think the have special rates for sometime in December.

Jean, do you know their address for their website? I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed yourself so much there that you will always go back. Sounds wonderful to me smile.gif
Just back from a 3-day stay at the Madison, and it's better than ever. The location is great--just a short walk to Paul's or Kayser for breakfast, and from there not far to the Sainte-Chapelle and Notre-Dame.

The recent redecorating was very effective; the halls are yellow and blue, bright on dark days, and the two rooms we saw besides our own were charming. Our was large, with a day-bed sofa, a big chest of drawers, a writing desk, a slipper chair, and plenty of storage. The bathroom had two sinks, a good shower (with full-width curtain) and tub that had a stretchable laundry line at the top.

We and our traveling companion were very pleased with the Madison. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the buffet breakfast (included in regular but apparently not Internet special rates) is excellent. I can't imagine staying anywhere else now.

Did they even cut out th ones along the church where there is this little (maybe 10' wide garden?

I think those are still there.

Chuck - I think the trees are gone, or some of them. When I was there a few months ago, I noticed that many of the trees along the Boulevard had been cut down. I will check again next month.
The Deux Magots is across the church, but it is across the west side of the church, and is fairly well obscured by the trees by the Church. You (or I) would naturally recognize it, but if you dont know it, it may be hard.

Travelgirl, I love that area. I spent a lot of time in that area last trip. Please be sure to tell us all about your experience with Hotel Madison when you return. I really enjoy getting a glass of champaigne with orange juice in it, and sitting out in front of Cafe Deux Magots, and just watch the people go by. Remember, if you buy something, you can sit there as long as you wish and they have nice toilettes smile.gif There is a Monoprix right in that area that I really enjoy as well. You will have a great time! biggrin.gif
Deux Magots is directly across the street from the church. If they leave the hotel and cant see Deux Magot across Blvd St. Germain (without directions) then they better not leave home. biggrin.gif
Al, right across from the Madison is the end of the St. Germain des Pres Church. tha Cafés are about 150 yards down the Blvd (I awould say about 150 yards or so, but you can not see them if you just cross the Blvd St. Germain by the hotel. Your best bet is to walk west until you get to the place St. Germain des Pres, and cross the Blvd there. Remember to cross the Blvd at the place St. Germain des Pres, you have to use the Underpass, (which is also the entrance to the Metro.)

But more important......right across the street from your hotel.
Just to add to Al's comment, The Hotel Madison is right on the Bl. St. Germain, but a little bit set back from the main trafic, so it is not to noisy, It is in the heart of the St.Germain de Pres district, between the the Place St.Germain des Pres and the Odeon Metro station. I would say it is one of the best located hotels in Paris. Just a few places that are within walking distance (I consider "within walking distance" anything less than one mile): The Louvre, Notre Dame, The Conciergerie, the Aainte Chapelle, The Luxembour Gardens, and the Luxembourg Palace (now the home of the Senate of France), The Musée d'Orsay, The Musée de Cluny. The Latin Quarter, etc. Using the Metro, you can reach from there any address in Paris within 1/2 hour. I love the area, and each time I go, I stay in one of the hotels in the area. Naturally you also have there two of the better known literary cafes of Paris, the Deux Magots and the Café de Flore, are right there on the Blvd St. Germain, across from the St. Germain des Pres Church.
Have fun.

BPJean has stayed there a couple of times. In fact she should be getting to Paris in about a week and will be staying there again. The Madison is in the upper levels of a 3* for cost and performs well to deserve it.

....wondering how close somethings are..

You are in the heart of St.Germain de Pres and one of the best locations in Paris to get to and appreciate the tourist spots of Paris. Whoever advised you did well.
While I have not stayed here friends and relatives have. It is extremely well-located and I have only heard good things about the rooms and staff.
Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Madison...We have reservations in November.....renting the top two rooms....wondering how close somethings are....are what anyone thought of the staff there...
