Point made ;-)
Yep, I think he is about five inches shorter than Carla.
hummm .. Sarko is married to Carla. could that be the reason??
Yep, maybe you are right Karen. ;-)

By the way, speaking of fashion, I saw a photo yesterday
of Sarko walking up to greet Gordon Brown at 10 Downing Street.
Have you ever noticed Sarko's stacked heels? I know the guy
is really short, but I thought those things went out with the
70s--at least for men.

Ron ,, I just don't see it!! not your style.
Well, since I am older, maybe I will try out the headband look.
Not sure it will go well with a Brooks Brothers' blazer, though. ;-)
Ron - you see every type of dress in Paris. And yes, there's lots of funky and retro. One thing that's for certain is that the younger and OLDER you are - the more you can't get away with it. Another factor is that people are dressing so much more informally. Anything goes as long as you do it with style.
Karen,

Just wondering if you have succumbed to any of these Paris fashion trends:

Bravo for the mostly right-on article. So many non-French women are given away by their lack of attention to their shoes & purses.

As for underwear, even (what Americans would consider sexy) are sold at the Monoprix.

I particularly appreciated the "you never know who you'll meet".

My wife never wears old underwear, because : "If i'm caught in an accident, what will the paramedics think?"
Great article, Mimi. And so true!
Ellen when women ask me about French(Paris)women, I send them this:

Thoughts?

I readily agree that French women in general and in particular those from Paris do have a "touch" but I think that my wife, English born and bred, had that touch and so many New Yorkers that we know do. That all French women "ooze" it I seriously question.

I find that in classy international hotels one doesn't have to be French to "have it". And as for Italian women, there are alot who are appealing....but having been to Italy often I find it difficult to put all Italian women in a special appealing catagory.
Karen's article on style in the BP newsletter reminded me of an observation I made last week. While eating breakfast at a large hotel in Chicago, my ear picked up a slight French accent at the table across from me. A woman was with two Americans at what appeared to be a business breakfast. I couldn't help staring at her. She oozed style, but she wore no jewelry and no make-up. She was thin, but not too thin. She wore a black V-neck pullover sweater and a red skirt typical of those seen in shop windows in Paris. A little frilly and bohemian, but not too much.

There aren't many nationalities (Italian women, the exception) who can accomplish that. I know no matter how hard I'd try, I couldn't come close!
