My understanding is the Hotel de Louvre has undergone some renovations. Can any of our readers report yah or nay?
Karen....
Your comments are interesting, indeed. I had stayed at the Warwick on Rue de Berri many, many times in the past. As the price continued to climb and climb, we opted for hotels on the Left Bank for a few years. Then in March of this year the Warwick was offering a special at a very attractive price, so we jumped at the opportunity. To my dismay, the hotel seemed to be run down and the service left much to be desired. It was such a dramatic decline, that I feel the ownership must have changed hands.
I realize that many people feel that you spend so little time in the hotel that it really doesn't matter, but the comfort of a hotel is very important to me.
As for the Lutecia not only was the room dismal, but also the service was poor and, additionally, the attitude and lack of competence of the concierges did not make us feel welcome. And to add insult to injury, there were charges on our bill for services neither requested nor rendered!

If it were me, I'd opt for another hotel. The Hotel de Louvre had been owned by the Concorde Group which sold it (and their other hotels) a couple of years ago. Over the past ten years, no major renovations took place and the Louvre began looking down on its heels.
Granted, there are some terrific rooms. But as is true with the Lutecia, YOUR changes of snagging one are few and far between.
Neither the Louvre nor the Lutecia are cheap. There are other (and better) hotels for the money with equally good locations.
AND ditto for the hotels on the Cote D'azur.
My friends will also be staying at the Negresco in Nice. Again, the location is great; the public rooms are magnificent; the dining room, Chantecler, offers an exquisite dining experience sans pareil, at least from my experience a few years ago. However, I have never stayed there, and I understand that the rooms are not in parity with the public rooms or the price!
Any opinions?
Thank you very much, Al. I checked out the thread, and, as I had assumed, the hotel is in a great location, but the hotel itself is not special. I hope, at least, it is not as bad as the Lutecia, an experience I will never forget.
The comments in the thread are from July 2004. Has anyone had a more recent experience at the Hotel de Louvre?
Mary.......
if you go to
http://discussion.bonjourparis.com/index.p...=Hotel+de+Louvryou will find a thread on the hotel with a number of posts on the hotel. Got it by entering the name of the hotel on Search on top of the forum.
Two friends who are visiting Paris for the first time will be staying at the Hotel de Louvre. I have never stayed there, and they have asked me about it. Other than its prime location, I don't know anything about the hotel. Any opinions?
Thanks
Mary
