Ashes can be scattered outdoors in France except on public roadways. From what I came across while searching on Google, it looks like you need to go through certain bureaucratic formalities (naturally!) at a French consulate to legally transport human ashes to France.
I suggest contacting the consulate serving your area for specific info.
Thanks, Barbara. From the little research I did on Google, it appears that the TSA requires that
cremated remains must be placed in a special container (plastic, etc.) so that the contents may be
viewed by the x-ray machine. Remains may not be placed in your check-in luggage. There are Web sites
that sell these special containers.
Regarding the spreading of ashes, I am fond of Paris parks, especially Luxembourg and the Bois
de Boulogne. The Seine sounds like a good idea, too.
Ron - I don't think you are macabre, you just want to plan for your future - kind of. I suppose I think this way as I work for the State of Texas in the elderly and disabled programs, so I am used to talking about preneeds for burial/cremations, etc.. Also, I am glad to see that I am not the only one thinking about having ashes scattered in Paris or France. I am hoping my friends can plop some of my ashes into the Seine. Now whether they can really do that or not, who knows? I, am still thinking of other spots in France, just not quite sure where though. I suppose one day after many, many more visits I will find another spot. Wonder if there are any rules/laws on this? Hope not!
Have a great day!
Barbara
Okay, I know this is going to seem macabre and weird, but last week I received a
letter from "The Neptune Society" promoting "green" cremations--certainly not the
kind of mail to lift one's spirits, especially since I am of the boomer generation.
But since I do plan to be reduced to ashes, I was thinking where in Paris-or France-
I might like to have my remains scattered. Any suggestions?
