  • BUZZ: Le Dome Du Marais, Folies Bergere Auction & BnS Kitchen

    By Margaret Kemp

Le Dome du Marais is a beautiful woman, a handsome man. They walk past you in the metro, they're entering or exiting a hotel, bar or restaurant, wow! you gasp, why don't I look like that? French artist Édouard Manet showed “Bar at the Folies-Bergère” at the 1882 Paris Salon exhibition one year before his death. It's not included in the current auction, but there's much of interest. Although there's no boutique showcasing Benjamin Griffon's marvellous macarons, they're very easy to order.

  • Dining at ‘Variations’

    By Loui Franke

There is nothing quite like dining in cafés, bistros or brasseries in France. Arguably, the French have everyone else beat and every neighborhood in Paris has a plethora of choices. However, even with the many choices, locals tend to gravitate to the same restaurants. One in particular, Variations, is fondly referred to as “ma cantine”.  This term is used if one tends to go to a favorite spot so often that it feels like your own kitchen.

  • Le Camion qui fume - A Food Truck in Paris

    By Nicole Smith

For the first time in my life, I had to set my alarm to get to a hamburger truck. It was a windy, rainy 10 am when I left my apartment to make sure I was in line by 10:30 am at Le Camion qui fume, Paris' first (and still only) food truck, which started service at Place de la Madeline at 11 am. Coming from New York, where there are so many food trucks that they now seem part of the pavement, I was interested to see why this concept has become so popular in the land of haute cuisine, and if the food was worth the wait.

  • Chez Helen, Spring at Le Plaza Athenee, Beef Club, Amandine Chaignot at Le Raphael & Cannes Film Festival Buzz

    By Margaret Kemp

HelenHelen may be an odd name for a fish restaurant, but on a scale of 1/10 it scores eleven for quality. At the Plaza Athenee bar a fragrant surprise awaits, but hurry it's limited edition. Beef Club is the new hip address for a Beef Encounter and Italian Director Nanni Moretti heads the jury at this years' Cannes Film Festival. And it's girl power as two talented chefs take up posts in Parisian palaces.

  • The Rush Bar: A Neighborhood Bar

    By Miriam Cochran

The Rush Bar, located in the 11th Arrondissement of Paris, doesn’t look like anything special from the outside…or from the inside, for that matter. You wouldn’t know by looking at it, that this bar serves some seriously high quality food for a seriously reasonable price. I started coming to this bar for drinks when I first moved to Paris, but when they hired a new cook sometime in the beginning of 2011, I started coming because I’m addicted to their food.

  • French Food on My Mind

    By Arnie Greenberg

PoutineCanadians have a special relationship with France since French is our second official language and Canadians make up a great proportion of people traveling to France to work, to visit or to live.

I’m attracted by their history, their music, their art and their way of life, including their food.  I have visited some of the most reputable eateries in many French cities, from Paris, to Lyons, Sarlat, Bordeaux, Tours, Albi and Auxerre. I’ve purchased various mustards in Dijon, Croissants and tarte tatin in Culoz, Cahors and even Bergerac. Cassoulet in Carcassonne, that baked bean and meat dish to make your mouth water. The wines of Bordeaux or the Rhone often grace my table and, recently, I discovered a recent French-Canadian invention in the center of Paris.
